What does this role entail?

Reporting to the VP Finance, the Payroll Administrator & Payable Assistant will be administrating payroll the payroll for 3 different provinces as well as supporting the Account Payable team in processing purchase order.
Self-starter with entrepreneurial mindset, the incumbent would have the can-do attitude and strive to continually increase his knowledge and eagerness to learn.
Payroll Administration:
• Administer bi-monthly payroll for both Canadian and USA-based employees.
• Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
• Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate that employees are paid in accordance to employment. contracts and are charged to proper GL accounts and proper dimension combinations.
• Responsible for setting up payroll details, including pay controls, rates, tax authority information and other authority information in Microsoft Dynamics NAV payroll system.
• Responsible for vacation and sick days validation and update. Update and calculate vacation liability.
• Track and process employees expense reports and company benefits reimbursement in payroll (gym, security boots, etc.)
• Prepare and submit all required Record of Employment (ROE.)
• Responsible for payroll year-end duties, i.e. T4, T4 summary, and other year-end forms.
• Responsible for all payroll related tax remittances (i.e. Union dues, WorkSafe BC, CNESST, etc.) on a timely manner.
• Responsible for payroll year-end audit & T4 summary reconciliations.
• Work closely with managers and Human Resources Director to address all payroll related issue
• Other ad hoc payroll analysis as required.
Assisting the Account Payable team:
• Verify and match suppliers against purchase orders.
• Process invoices for PO’s.
• Follow up on any PO discrepancy’s with invoices, with vendors or internally as required.
• Support the finance team with projects as required.

What candidate profile are we looking for?

• 5-8 years of relevant experience in payroll and general accounting
• College Degree in Accounting or relevant field
• Experience working with Desjardins or an Automated Payroll/HR system
• Experience using an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP), Microsoft NAV ERP (an asset).
• Member of Canadian Payroll Association (an asset)
• Extremely organized with the ability to prioritize work to meet payroll deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of payroll accounting and applicable government legislation
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Creative and effective problem-solving ability
• Bilingual (English and French)
